Reanimator is quite the classic, unless you're squeamish. A couple more recommendation I can make for animation fans, both direct to DVD releases and both very cool: - Justice League - The New Frontier Set in the MacCarthy era of the US, the Justice League heroes do their thing. It's not for kids and it's really slick. It's got a great retro style and enough of that great 50's sci-fi vibe to make it really enjoyable. Batman: Gotham Knight An anthology piece in the vein of the Animatrix, 5 separate stories each by a different anime director. Very cool stuff. The movie acts as a bridge piece between Batman Begins and Dark Knight. The first story is by the same director as the maker of Tekkonkinkreet, it's very cool. (so is Tekkonkinkreet!). Check them out.

So while everybody is on their Dark Knight trip, here's something to look forward to for next year.

Really hope this is as good as the trailer looks, it's a very cool comic, especially if you just read it and forget the hype...
By the way, the guy at the end of the youtube trailer isn't me. (even though he is Australian)

I'm really worried about Watchmen. Honestly, is anyone who doesn't know what the comic is (the mass market) even going to be interested enough to see it?

I think so, looking at the trailer in isolation it comes off as a slick superhero action movie by the guy who did 300. I think the Watchmen readers / devotees / fanboys / lunatic fringe etc. will go into it with some prior knowlege, and just like pretty much every comic book to movie, the fanboys will rip it to shreds.
The sucess of the movie will depend on how well made it is and how smoothly they transition the dense and complex story to film, as Alan Moore says, 'it was written to be un-filmable'. Let's face it, it can't be any worse than LXG!
Although, is it just me, or does everybody cringe when they see, 'from the visionary director of 300'.

Haha yeah I know what you mean there... I'm not so worried either, I hadn't read the graphic novel, but having seen the trailer and doing some background research (what can I say, I'm thorough ) I went out and got it as soon as I had a chance and read it

I know I do. And the most celebrated graphic novel of our time? Really? I'm going to need a citation for that one. Not arguing that it's not great, because it is, but they really seem to be pandering the fanboys. I showed it to my wife so I could get an unbiased opinion and she didn't get it, all she thought was cool was the Smashing Pumpkins track. But I'll be curious how they try to present the story in the TV commercials.

But I'll be curious how they try to present the story in the TV commercials. I've got a feeling that they'll be pretty obtuse about the overall plot. I showed it to somebody without a clue as to what it was, they were the same, thought it looked cool but no idea. In explaining the plot to them, I basically had to say, Superheroes are real, it's a murder story / conspiracy movie. Which really doesn't cover all the bases. And if you're interested Meffi, the track is The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning by the Smashing Pumpkins, I think it suits the trailer really well, but it won't wind up in the movie, that version of the song was used on the Batman & Robin soundtrack!

I actually quite liked Batman & Robin I guess because of the reason everyone else doesn't like it... because it was so hilariously cheesy and over the top

Do like the TV series from the 60's with Adam West and Burt Ward?
It was a lot of fun and I used to watch the reruns as a kid in the 80's.
